if i was interested in giving NS another try, what is the current version i would need? i think i have beta3 installed, but when last i tried to play (3-4 months ago) i got a message saying something like "client .dll differs from server's"

so what? i need a whole new game client and a new patch file? or will just a patch file work?

the main NS site is down and i dont feel like looking around a whole lot when i have whole staff NS support people at my disposal.

I think beta 4b will work for most servers-- beta 5 is the latest.
i have both files saved on my machine at home.

what is the aol server and why is it that most servers havent gone to beta 5. i dont like multiple versions available at the same time. dilutes the pool.

lol.. sry last post was misleading-- i meant that beta 4 should allow you to play online bcz some servers havent changed, and the BOT programs don't work with version v3.0b5. b5 is the most popular version online as is the AOl server.

You will need beta 5 and the client.dll error, I remember having that as well.

from what I did, make sure the directories are correct and make sure to run the HL training map before.
You'll have to reinstall or change the directory.

IE, what I have: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\"your username"\ns it makes the folder automaticly so you don't have to make one.

So this is what it's come to? I have to reinstall NS if i want to play a game with the [AoL] people again? Tis' a sad day my friends. But I will do it. I remember the last time I played and i thought the game felt very unbalanced (like Strat once said, you can empty whole clips of ammo into some creatures and they don'y die). It seemed like the aliens were WAY stronger than the marines.

On a side note, this " Half-Life Based Game Discussions" section should just be converted to NS Game Discussions since it seems more people play that than HL2. Just a thought.

Beta 5 will be what you want. Lately, our server has not had a lot of ppl. Not sure why. It used to be full all the time.

Some people got pissed at a couple of changes they made and decided to stay with an older version. With beta 6, which is due out in a month or two I think, the changes some people were pissed at should be corrected and hopefully just about everyone will be on the same version.
