alright so I have a notebook computer and my regular old box, but ive been stuck on my notebook cause my monitor got fried during a thunder storm...weird... I was wondering, 1. the notebook has 2 outputs a vga in the back and an s-vid on the side, could I get a cable, say a vga male-male cable and be able to have it work through my notebook, or would I have to use the s-vid to comp-out? then again is it even possible to do something like this?

you should be able to hook a monitor up to your notebook. thats one of the functions docking stations perform.

You're wanting to take your regular box and have it displayed on the notebooks screen, correct?
Just need to clarify, b/c I think Strat is thinking wrong here.

I've never heard of anything doing the reverse process like that. There may be something out there, but I think your best bet is just to get a new monitor.

If your notebook has a video line in then yes. You'll need a matching lineout on your regular box. Your notebook will have to be on, because that's how it's setup to get power. I don't think you will be able to use the LCD on the notebook dedicated to your regular box. Another words you need to load your notebook along with it's OS and use a video line in program to display what's on your regular comp.

on my desktop I have an ati 9200 with comp-out, svid, and the standard vga.
on my notebook I have svid, and vga. I dont have a monitor at all besides my notebook obviously, and well.... im not sure exactly how to go out this, I was thinking something like getting a cable that either goes svid-m to svid-m or getting an svid-m to comp-out... it boggles the mind?! I was told by several differant people from compusa, and bestbuy that its not possible but im an optomistic damnit lol.
and yes pake you have it right.
I'm looking for the cheapest solution to this problem.

Yeah, don't think it's possible. What you're thinking of doing is sticking to video out signals and having them collide. I've never tested this, but I'd assume it would be a disaster.

I assume that when two outgoing signals collide the cable would expload, resulting in whatever you were transmitting to enter the real world. So if you were shooting at someone in a game and suddenly they pop out and start shooting back.... not good.

well so i've came to the conclusion that i cant do what i want to do without buying some gagillion dollar pieces of hardware to to the svid/dvi/vga conversions that i would like to do so ive turned to fixing my monitor.
I have 2 monitors, both 17" monitors, one is an HP and the other is an MAG, on the HP the vga is messed up and only displays green. the MAG gets no power to it at all... suggestions, puns, and some mad ad-libs would be nice.

Go to a local computer shop and look for a used CRT monitor that works. One shop close to me sells 17" for 20-30 bucks. They work and the two that I bought still work till this day after 3-4 years.
Don't try to fix it yourself unless you really know what your doing. Even after having a monitor unplugged for a month there are some components in there that stay charged up and will zap you to death. I learned that first hand when I was 8 yrs old and fixing a TV!
